We've all experienced difficulty at some point, however different; I see this as a meeting point for us all and part of being human. Whether what you're facing relates to the present or the past, my aim is to help you make sense of your situation and find tools that better support you through life's inevitable ups and downs.
I offer one-to-one therapy for a wide range of issues that life can throw at us or that we face as a result of difficult events. These include:
As for all us, some of these often overlap. When painful past experiences are left unprocessed, the original pain can be retriggered in the present and/or evolve into coping mechanisms that with time can become limiting rather than protective. The past remains fresh, and our way of relating with ourselves and others, can hurt more. When this happens, it's not unusual for a break-up, a significant event or loss of any kind, to leave us futher destablised. If this is how you feel, please know you're not alone.
If the issue you're facing isn't listed above or you would describe what you're feeling differently, please get in touch.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on the theories that speak to me through their philosophy and practice; namely, Transactional Analysis, with a working knowledge of CBT, Attachment theory, Parts work and other systemic approaches for addressing trauma and abuse in particular.
We usually fear what we don't understand, so when appropriate I offer an "educational" element to sessions through articles and exercises. Understanding why we feel a certain way, learning about what affects our feelings (positively and negatively) and how we can influence the outcome, can make us feel more empowered and active in the changes we aim to create. In other words, you can discover new ways of helping yourself but without having to go it alone..
I believe change comes from a compassion for what was, updating beliefs for what is, and creating a way of being for what can be. Whatever your situation, together we will tailor the therapy to your needs, rather than your needs to the therapy.
